Big Sales Pitch for Tatanya's Berdyansk Boutique
OK, Bigshots. I think everyone who wants to comment has had a chance by now, so here's what I heard:Clear majority of us want to proceed, but nobody is in love with setting up a special Paypal account to do it.
Julia and I like the idea of picking an unpopular Kiva borrower who meets Ramon's criteria for good business investment. Lets do something as a group we wouldn't do on our own. We'll do good while still being wise about our money.
There's nothing I would like better than to squabble about who to choose as our first borrower, but I am leaving on a 1000 mile drive this afternoon and will have sketchy access to internet for the next week. So, if you will forgive me, I propose someone right now...the daring and resourceful Tatanya Ryeznik of Berdyansk,Ukraine.
Read her profile - She's cool. She has a track record. She wants to borrow a substantial amount and pay it back at between 10 and 20 per cent per month. There's absolutely no reason why this lady should get lost in the shuffle, yet, sorted by popularity, she comes up on the very last page, and sorted by age, her loan request has been up a long time.
Forget about it! C'mon superheroes, Tatanya needs some help here! Let's get this lady funded! To get to her page, just click on my Kiva ad. Hopefully, her picture will stay up until she is funded.

OK. I'm in, or will be as soon as I leave this comment.
Hey. I just realized we're in the Lingerie business.
i'm in too, and just added my first Tanzanian!
Chalk up one more for Tatanya! I'm in! Wish I could look so cool in my shades!
I'm in. She's got a perfect credit history and has repaid loans before.
And she sells 'good quality' lingerie.
Its incredible to think how much her business might grow in the next few years. And we get to play a part!
Think we can fund her before the pig gets back online?
Hey, all our interest in Tatanya has bumped her up to the first page in popularity instead of the last- hope that will help her funding. Did you guys notice Dimitri Dimitrov? He's making a go at worm farming- now that is so different I just had to fund that as well!-I love outside the box thinking.
I'm in.
Now worm farming... That sounds like a Patrushka investment for sure, eh?
I just had to get in on the worm farming when I found out they were Californian worms.
it's so cool that we did that! she's still missing $575 though, hope it won't take too long.
Slight correction- the worm farmer's name is Dimitar Dimitrov, not Dimitri Dimitrov. That's what I get for trying to remember an unusual name off the top of my head!
I wonder how many other groups there are that do this type of thing? There was this one fellow that I funded that I noticed had been on the site for a long time, and then after I funded him it took weeks longer for his amounts to creep up. Then one day when he still had some $400+ to go, all of a sudden he was funded and a ton more people showed up on the page as lenders- so it wasn't that just one person had funded the remainder. I wondered at the time how that had happened. Now I'm guessing that some group like ours decided to fund him. So now all those early lenders to Tatanya must be going, "Huh? What just happened? Why the jump?"
Different topic here, but something I've noticed that I'm curious about- just how many of us play or have received training on musical instruments? From comments here and there I'm thinking there's an awful lot of us who are musical types in this Pigsty!
Ari-violin
Kirstie- viola
me-viola
PPig- guitar
Paula- do I remember double bass?
Leo- you jumpin' in with mandolin and dulcimer?
Patrushka- you singin'?
who else?

I play the Mando some and Dulcimer, but am most proficient on the guitar. I started playing in 1969, after 6 years of violin.
My Hannah gave up the viola and went back to the flute. I wish she'd have stuck with the viola. Need more string players in my house. Her sister, Rachel, is getting good on the piano. Otherwise, no strings.
Do you see a music summit happening? Maybe a weekend at the "Hard Rock" in St George with "The Ponderin' Pig All-Stars"?
I'm free at the end of June.
As far as KIVA, all I can say is "Fund'em like crazy!"
For myself, I have spent literally thousands of dollars on frivolous crap (no, not that new guitar) and have had nothing worthwhile to show for it but a number of bad headaches. KIVA, or any worthy cause, is a fresh and righteous way to use what I've been gifted with in a non-selfish way.
Having talked with Patrushka recently about worm farming, I'm ready to jump on that one too. I've tried it down here in southern Arizona and know it can be lucrative if you can work the worms. I just garden with them and do the occasional fishing trip, but most places literally hurt for a good source of worms (I'm not being frivolous with words here). Give the people worms and the crops will flourish!
Ok, I got a little carried away on the worm thing.
So, when do we start practice for the "Hard Rock" gigs? Maybe a little Ellington along with some blues and a little Stravinski? What's the feeling on a Bartok set?
I know Pig and Kirstie dig the Edith Piaf stuff, but that's a little sappy for St. George, n'est pas?
I have been pondering a lot lately. I know, it's not my spiritual gift, but we are called to seek the higher gifts, aren't we?
Anyways, I was pondering the concept of importance in this world. I mean, Pig could be important because he brewed this KIG idea up. Every one of us that loans through KIVA could think ourtselves important because we have some $$$ to kick in. No one would argue that.
But the real importance lies in the work, the toil, and the spirit of those people we loan too. While we've got money and they don't, they have the drive and the desire (the heart) to do whatever it takes to survive and eventually thrive in this world.
I know all of us realize that every day and especially every time we make a loan. I guess, for me anyways, I need to see it and hear it occasionally.
Keep it up, brothers and sisters.
We did it! She's funded! Yah to the PP Kiva Investment group. (by the way, I made an icon for us. Its on my blog, feel free to steal it. I don't know how to post it here). I hope people don't mind I took the liberty to merge a few pictures and make an icon.
I totally agree with you Leonard. We're doing the easy part by providing money, they are doing the hard part. And their spirit makes Kiva.
Julia
-who plays the guitar 'cause she took 'Retro Hippy 101' and grew up in the land of Neil Young. I also sing but I think my abilities were most desired as a kid 'cause I was the one who could remember all the words.
???? When I checked at 11:15pm yesterday Tatyana still had some $500 to go. Now by 7am she's fully funded but it doesn't look like there's anyone on the lender list that wasn't there last night. Either someone on her list made an additional huge donation, or something is strange with the bookkeeping....
I just thought of a third possibility- maybe the microloan organization decided they could swing the remaining $500 and so closed out her loan? Maybe I'll check with Kiva and see if that happens sometimes...
I was really surprised about that too because she was still missing about $500 after a bunch of us lent to her. But I don't remember seeing loryjean there before, who is now last on the lender list. could she have added the $500? Regarding MFIs adding money, is that what's going on when kiva says " $x.xx in other baskets" ? have you noticed that on some loan applicant pages?
nah, loryjean was already there when I went to bed and there was still the $500+ remaining. I think the $x.xx in other baskets is simply refering to when a potential lender has put person in their basket but then clicked on Diversify my Portfolio and continues "shopping", rather than immediately checking out. That loan request is now in their basket but hasn't yet been paid for.
Hannah, sorry for replying so late...I missed all the hubbub! (I'm in a community play that opens next week, and my computer time is down)
I play guitar some, upright bass, piano (if there's sheet music), and even a little flute.
Julia- Remembering the words of songs is a very good thing! I love singing, but I rarely know the words- I make up all kinds of goofiness to fill in the blanks!
Paula- Lady of many talents for sure! Good luck with your play!
Leo- Not in St. George! I have to go there on a regular basis already and I really wish I didn't- although it's larger than when you were last there I'm sure (according to comments you made on Patrushka's blog), the attitude isn't any better.
