Virginia Again

Our flirtation with Pittsburgh didn't last long. We did see one neighborhood we liked a lot, Squirrel Hill. Had that good Berkeley feeling (my opinion) and a great Taiwanese restaurant, the Rose Tea Cafe. But the houses of the neighborhood were big and formal and 1920s Margaret Dumont elegance, and I just couldn't imagine setting up the pigsty there in spite of the coffee houses and watering holes featuring bottles of Yingling.
So this morning finds us back in Charlottesville, 300 odd miles southeast. Something about western Virginia feels good to these little red eyes. The little country roads and golden March light lowers my blood pressure, like petting my cat, if I had a cat.
So, really no pondering today. Just wanted you all to know we haven't disappeared. We're going to stay here a few days and look around.

A Margaret Dumont house would be ideal, wouldn't it? Chicolini on the piano or Captain Spaulding brought in on a sedan chair? I can hear the horn as Harpo chases every woman in sight (except, of course, Margaret).

Hooray, hooray, hooray!

If that picture is any indication of where you're at, then I want to live there too! (I've been craving green meadows lately.) It looks perfect.

Question. What do you do for sustenance? We all have to work...right? Are you in the gorgeous position of "setting up shop" where-ever you end up?
Are you on your own? When we left Vancouver BC ( 2 million humans roughly) and ended up in Little town Alberta (3700 humans) the biggest withdrawal I faced and still face, is diversity. There are no galleries housing art, other than paintings of local sceneries. No funky coffee shops, no ethnic eateries, save 1 struggling Greek place and a "white-man chinese restaurant. Very few musical events...I miss "LIFE"

Have we lost the Pondering Pig and his bride to the wiles of the world in Virginia?

I hear tell that there is some rough country around there and it used to be part of the confederacy. Been there once, 25 years ago, but I found it lovely and, generally quiet (at least until you travel east).

Actually, I'm in Connecticut today. Haven't gone away - just leading a harum scarum life the last week, and it's not conducive to pondering. I'll be back soon, so don't touch that dial!
