While Trolling the Blogosphere...
For anybody pondering the role of religion in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, I send you to this post by Uri Avnery at Gush Shalom, the self-styled "voice of the Israeli Peace Movement. A fascinating thumbnail history of the whole sad but weird history beginning with the pre-WWII Zionists.

Thank you for that link. It was very informative, and very scary.
So true. Sad but weird. It would seem that the struggle for survival whether it is religious or political in basis, is a pretty universal thing. Add in 5000 years as the "Chosen People" and the horrors of the Holocaust and you have a people that have a whole lot more than just a strong sense of identity, that's for sure.
Soon, in time, we won't have the luxury of freely walking about in our own communities...let alone Countries. The time of global paranoia and suspicion is at hand. Walls and barriers in the Middle East, Canada, America, Mexico etc. But heavily fortified, highest walls of all, are the ones around our hearts.
That was very interesting indeed. I think you would also find this link interesting: King Abdullah of Jordan's remarks at a rent prayer breakfast. It seems hopeful.

oops, that link was too long and got cut off. That's an html (shmtl) after the "s" at the end. But actually, this link is even better, it's the full text of his remarks. Well, I haven't read it yet, but I'm going to!

Boy, I seem to be full of typos tonight. I went back and read my remarks. The King spoke at a "recent" prayer breakfast, not a "rent" prayer breakfast. That would be another event entirely, such as perhaps I might have organized in college when my checking account balance was hovering just above zero.
