A Rooster at the Crisis Pregnancy Center

Foghorn Leghorn, the fabulous talking rooster of Toronto, reported in yesterday. He's been volunteering down at the local crisis pregnancy center. Here's his report...

"I talk to men and couples. The ladies talk to the girls and there's usually a lot more of them than guys for sure...Some of these kids just don't get it and the guys are, well, dopes a lot of them.

"It's sad but it would be a comedy if it wasn't so sad. I had 2 guys that didn't know how the gals got pregnant since they pulled out before they were completely done. Gee, kid. It only takes one. One guy thought his girl was cheating on him because they only had sex a couple times one month so it couldn't be him."

I have a lot of respect for the Foghorn. It takes an uncommon man to be willing to get down into the grit and sorrow of life like that.

Thanks Pig. It's not that hard though. Once I saw that I wasn't alone in my grief over my past it became easy to talk to people about it. 2 of the 5 guys I talked to last week took their gals to the abortion clinic. The will feel the pain someday and maybe sooner then later because we talked. The other 3 are coming back next week they say. I dont expect to change peoples minds I just want them to know what they are doing when they do it and they arent alone.

Many kudos to Foghorn. Education and connecting our feelings and behavior matter. I had a friend who did similar work who once talked to a 15 yrs old pregnant girl who was baffled how she got in such a state. She said her boyfriend had assured her she was safe because he'd had a vasectomy. He had even shown her the scar beneath his left arm where the doctor cut the tube. I kid you not.

Oh my. The scar under his arm. Yikes!!

Just another reason that I am so glad we've been very frank in our discussions about sex with our 12 year old daughter. She'd never be fooled by that!! (She spent too much time laughing at her father as he put ice-packs on his vasectomy scar. Hah!)
