James Dean's Jeans

Oh no - not this again! Yes, friends, Jimmy's trousers sold so well that now someone is putting up his jeans and his teeshirt too. Estimated value at auction: $15,000. To anyone of my generation, that's cheap. And, astounding to say - Jim Stark, Dean's character in Rebel Without A Cause, wore Lee's jeans! In my high school, only Levis were cool. All other brands were worn only by dorks. That singular prejudice has lasted to this day and, after nearly fifty years, I still only wear Levis. I still don't want to be a dork!

The Who is in Calgary tonight. I heard on the radio that someone had 10 floor tix to sell. She wanted the printed price only. The DJ said call and get her #. I called and got the # and spoke with the woman. I was the first caller...I could have bought all of her tix for $215 ea. I paniced at the price ( I wanted 3) and graciously declined. Why didn't I buy 5 and sell two at the gig at $500 each? The Who for free...
Oh well, I saw their ORIGINAL farewell tour in Seattle in the early 80's.
Not to mention that skelping tix makes me angry...

I don't know about this Levi's thing, Dad. Didn't you know that Old Navy jeans are all the rage? That's all I wear! Hah hah! Actually, the only brand I wear these days are bootcut from Betty's thrift-o-rama. Pretty good deal down at Betty's. Course, better save 'em so when Kryn the Mag releases her hit single, "Tusk of the Walrus" with special bonus track "Hannah's Wedding," we can auction them off and support you in your scruffy wanderings.

Levi and Chuy Strauss were legendary tailors to the Hasidim in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Early on, they were recognized for the strength of their inseams. Rebbe Shlomo of Bratislav once told them, "Du areilim wolt gedarft neien hoisin."

Note the use of the word hoisn. This ought to clear up the bickering in the previous James Dean post and subsequent argument over pants/slacks/trousers. Obviously, hoisn or "trousers" is the traditional word of choice.

So, the bruders moved to the "Schtot bei der Buchte". The rest is, as the say, "Schtein un Keikln".

Don't trust my Yiddish? Ask Nitsa. She knows I "redn emesdik".
