Winter on the Rhode Island Coast
I must be a looking backward kind of pig. Spring is here but already I think of winter, so beautiful and icy...

I've got a talented mum, alright
Sure do, Kirstie.
Also, this is pretty pleasant after the comment debacle of the other day.
How dare you say there was a comment debacle at the Pigsty? I have a good mind to scoot you right out of here!!! Except what would we do without you? OK - you can stay. Just don't tease the cats.
Kirstie, you're right - your mom is definitely talented =) That picture of the ice bubbles is incredible - here in the desert that's something we never see...please bring on more of Patrushka's, pics, Pondering Pig - we love 'em!
Ok, it wasn't a debacle. More of a brief fete.
I tawt it was just the way tings wuz at de ole' piggysty? By the by... most loverly photos of late. She's a real arteest! Get her stuff together for a book. Betcha Leo and Lar could help you out???
Making my end-of-day rounds. Foggy is right. Maybe Lar and I can make you deleriously wealthy on Patrushka's photos? I'm up for it.
Oh, yeah, you're already deleriously wealthy from that cache you found under the statue. Just do the book for fun then. I'll keep the royalties.
Good call Leonard- The pigsty has always been a bit of a fete, long before there was a virtual pigsty! A set of encyclopedias and the Almanac were always kept very near to the dinner table so that one could appropriately defend, discuss, and prove one's point, whatever your opinion and whatever the topic- whether it happened to be the ancient Byzantine Empire, current events, a book read or movie seen, or anything in between. Discussions could get, ahem, a bit heated, but they always had to be respectful, and it was always fun. My friends have told me many times over that they never knew what to make of dinner at my house- it certainly wasn't like any dinner they'd ever had at their house. I guess Pondering Pig's desire of being admitted to Cafe Trieste carried down through the years and he created it at his own house- Don't you wish you could've been there? :)
Thanks for twenty-some years of great dinnertime conversations dad!
Totally awesome photography, Patrushka! Just wonderful!! ~ Carol
Hannah, my dear, I was there. I'm still there. The books are about 15 feet from me and this laptop is usually always within a finger's distance from the dining room table. My son Sam, at 7, jumps to Wikipedia faster than, well pretty darn fast. In our house, we strive for the same continuity and credibility. Don't say it if you can't back it up. Besides, Dad will kick your intellectual butt if there's any holes in your facts.
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall...
It is my firm belief that your dad probably writes from a side table at the Cafe Trieste on a daily basis. He need not be invited, he has a reserved seat.
I, on the other hand, tend to get kicked out after too many rounds of Red Bull and Stoly. The wisdom of maturity has not yet invaded my rampant soul, but I sense it will be doing so shortly.
A borrowed song from the Dead, who borrowed it from the Pindars. A close to the day. A Bahamian lullaby:
"Lay down my dear brothers, lay down and take your rest
Oh won't you lay your head upon your saviour's breast
I love you, oh, but Jesus love you the best
And I bid you goodnight, goodnight, goodnight"
Great pics, Pig. Thank you. Though here in Alberta, we are still getting frost at night...had to break the ice on my dog's water dish just yesterday.
So you'll pardon me if I don't ponder winter just yet. I'm too busy soaking in the orgiastic explosion of springtime in Alberta. It takes awhile to arrive, but woah, nellie...things happen fast once Spring actually hits!
Hannah was lots of fun at those dinnertable conversations. She stood her ground like a grownup. Each kid expressed their own opinions within their own personalities - Jenny the quiet and thoughtful one, Kirstie the diplomatic one and Hannah the outspoken one - all together debating any crazy thing that came up.
Talk with your kids, you grownups, listen to what they have to say. And take their opinions seriously. That's PonderPig's advice for today - and I don't give advice.
But one thing I've found imponderable - how do you use the laptop to prove a point when you've got honey on your fingers? Or trotters, as the case may be.
I got a little sidetracked today by listening to the The King Sisters when I was prepping another photo blog, but more pics are coming.
